The Engagement...
It was Christmas day, December 25, 2012, at approximately 3:00pm...the house was filled with family (literally filled, there were 13 of us!), the aroma of turkey and stuffing filled the air and the gift giving was in full effect. We were a good hour into the process and people were starting to fade quickly. I was trying to organize the process (what else is new) and was basically failing. Just then Bubba asked me to open a gift from his mom. I happily opened it to find a pair of mittens (Isotoners, nice!) and Bubba asked me to try them on. I did and modeled them for everyone to see and then I took them off. Bubba then asked for the mittens and started fiddling around with them. Thinking he was just checking them out, I turned around to grab another gift for him. At that moment, I heard one of my nieces yell "Oh my gosh!". Startled, I turned around to find Bubba on one knee, holding the ring and the glove that it was in (I know what you're thinking...how did I not feel it!? I wonder the same thing...)
At that moment, my head started thumping, I instantly begin to sweat and I burst out into tears. Needless to say I was COMPLETELY surprised. (He still says that it was the only way he could think of to truly surprise me and I undoubtedly agree.) I think it was about 30 seconds of crying when my mom finally said, "are you going to say yes or what!?" and I of course said yes!! To the right is a photo that, in my brother's words " truly captures the essence of the moment" and I couldn't agree more. It was one of the most special and real moments of my life, our life, together.
